David G. Wix Managing Partner David G. Wix is the Managing Partner of The Wix Law Group, LLC

Prior to starting The Wix Law Group, David spent 15 years as a litigator in the Chicago office of the international law firm, Baker & McKenzie. David concentrates his trial practice on commercial and tort litigation, with an emphasis on defending product liability lawsuits. He has successfully defended manufacturers involved in class actions and multi-district mass tort claims alleging defective products. He also has represented manufacturers and other businesses in commercial disputes, including breach of contract, breach of warranty and consumer fraud claims. In addition, David has experience handling litigation in many other practice areas, including, but not limited to antitrust, medical and legal malpractice, construction, employment and trade secret misappropriation. David is an experienced trial lawyer, having been lead counsel on five jury verdict trials and two bench trials, and he has taken and defended more than several hundred depositions.

In addition to his trial practice, David routinely advises corporations confronting major crises, such as product recalls and food-borne illness outbreaks. He has coordinated and advised clients on numerous national and global product recalls involving children’s products, computer/electronic products, cell phones/speaker phones, fire extinguishers, smoke alarms, food products and automobile equipment. As part of his work on these high-profile matters, David works with his clients on developing appropriate litigation strategies, interacting with governmental and regulatory agencies and responding to media inquiries.

David also assists clients in reducing potential product liability and product recall exposure by:

• Analyzing products from a legal perspective to identify potential issues that could result in a claim of product defect and assessing product warnings, packaging, labels, instructions for use, manuals and directions
• Reviewing or drafting product recall and crisis management plans and protocols and coordinating media responses
• Advising clients regarding compliance with governmental standards, statutes or requirements applicable to product recalls, as well as with industry and “voluntary” standards to reconcile or ensure internal consistency
• Assessing or drafting of all contracts related to the manufacture and sale of products

David routinely speaks and writes on product liability and product recall issues as well as other matters.

David is licensed to practice in the State of Illinois, the United States District Courts for the Northern and Central Districts of Illinois and the United States District Court for the Southern District of Indiana. He is a member of the trial bar in the Northern District of Illinois.

Dave is a member of the American Bar Association, the Defense Research Institute, where he is currently the Membership Chair of the International Law Committee, the International Association of Defense Counsel, the Illinois State Bar Association, the Illinois Association of Defense Trial Counsel and the Chicago Bar Association. David is currently a Director on the Chicago-Kent College of Law Alumni Board of Directors.
